Demystifying the Art of Bra Construction

I have been on a "make my own bras" kick for a while now. After I purchased the Craftsy class by Beverly Johnson I shopped online for supplies and found several books for construction and fitting instruction. I purchased (among others) DeMystifyng Bra Fitting & Construction Demystifying by Norma Loehr, the founder of Orange Lingerie Orange Lingerie.

This book provides complete instruction on making and fitting a bra and on bra pattern alteration. The author starts with basics but she clearly states she assumes you have reached a certain

proficiency in your sewing skills. She moves on to fitting and pattern alteration and ends the book with construction details. The book is filled with tips, most of which I found to be of value to even the most advanced sewer. One such tip - "If you have any pieces that need to be placed on the fold....create a full size pattern piece. It is more accurate to cut an entire piece than to place a pattern piece on the fold. This way your fabric cannot shift and you can better assess any motif or lace placement." Ms. Loehr clearly understands the process and is familiar with current fabrics, patterns and products.

You could easily use this book as your only source of instruction for making and fitting your own bras and I highly recommend it as a sewing room reference book Demystifying Bra Fitting & Construction.  The Orange Lingerie website is a also a treasure trove of goodies and is a pleasure to peruse Website.

If you own the book or buy the book, please let me know what you think!
