I recently purchased a book published in April, 2017 called How to Draw Modern Florals by Alli Koch. This is a self proclaimed "introduction to the art of flowers, cacti, and more." I was looking for a book with instruction on drawing flowers that I could put together with my lettering practice. The book was highly rated by the few who had reviewed it on Amazon so I thought gave it a chance as a good starter book.
The book shows step by step how to draw several flowers, succulents, and leaves. It is a nice selection of flowers. After each lesson there is one blank page to practice each lesson. The pages are smooth and heavy with no bleed through and the spiral binding is handy. I used PITT Artist Pens without
any issue. The steps are well explained and make sense while you are practicing.

At the end are a couple examples putting all the steps together. This is my very first attempt at putting it all together. All in all I thought a very good try based on not having drawn anything similar before. I used PITT Artist Pens and colored pencils to complete this drawing.
I feel that there could have been more flowers, etc...represented as there was a lot of "air" to the pages. Instead of two to four pages to provide instruction often one or two would have sufficed. I would have loved to see more flowers at an angle (side view) then the two pages provided.
If you have some experience with flower line drawings you will find this book to be too simplistic but I believe this to be a great book for a beginner artist who works better with step by step instruction. I was glad to have bought it and will use it for reference going forward. Alli K Design
