So this is the apple ornament for Christmas 2014. There is also a green pear ornament. It was inspired in part by the below, the first of which I found by stumbling through Pinterest. I spend wayyy too much time on Pinterest, but that's for another post.

Gabby Creates: Honeycomb Ornament |
I started with the directions from the coffee filter ball, which I read in full after my first attempt was not quite right (read dismal failure here). 25 total ornaments were made of the three different fruits/sizes. After the initial prototypes, they were all made while watching TV in the evening.
I used an old text book for the paper. The pages were slightly lighter in weight than most copy paper. I tried heavier paper from another book but it wasn't as successful as the text book weight paper.
Any shape is possible as long as it is symmetrical. Balls, vintage ornament shapes, fruits, etc...I was just thinking about how to make a round bodied bird with a head and tail attached, hmmmm.
See the next post for tutorial with pics.
