SKIL 7-Inch Wet Tile Saw Review

I bought a new toy last week at Amazon - a

SKIL 3540-02 7-Inch Wet Tile Saw. This is the saw you need for cutting tile, whether for your mosaics or for your new kitchen backsplash.

The saw is highly rated on Amazon as a great saw for the price and with the caveat that this is not a professional use saw. As I am not getting paid for cutting tile I can't speak to whether a professional tile layer will think it is a good saw but I can tell you that it is great for cutting the 4" x 4" bathroom tiles I am using in my new mosaic. I have't tried any other tile but based on what I have cut I would have no issue buying subway tile, Talavera tiles, most bathroom and wall tiles. I think the heavier 24" floor tiles would be a stretch for this saw.

Since this saw sprays a fine mist as the blade runs through the water reservoir I set my saw up outside near the garden hose. I was easily able to refill the reservoir and didn't feel it was too small though that was one of the complaints on Amazon. Since the fence is a little unwieldy to move accurately, I made all my similar cuts at once and then moved the fence for the next cuts. I was able to get accurate cuts down to 1/4" wide. I wish the fence had a easier method to lock and unlock but this is not enough of an issue to make me return it. And the knob system does guarantee the fence doesn't move during cutting.

All in all, I recommend this saw for the Do It Yourselfer. A good saw for a good price. Should you buy one for yourself, please let me know what you think!
